Wine Notes

A new wine from the producers of the great Cantina Giacomo Conterno Estate. Gattinara, in the north west of Piedmont, in the shadow of the Alps. was once more recognised that its now much lauded neighbours Barolo and Barbaresco. Italophile Erling Astrop led a team of Norwegian investors who bought the property in 2011. Astrop, a collector of Roberto Conterno’s wines, sought his friend Roberto’s advice from the outset eager to replace Gattinara on the viticultural map. Roberto bought the property in spring 2018, with Erling Astrop retaining 10% of the property – a tremendous future lies ahead

This wine has a lovely pure red fruited nose with a good dash of salinity. The palate continues with the red fruit but is joined by a light pepper and a tangy savoury component. This will give a lot of joy from the off, but will also age very well. The tannic structure is well-integrated. A fine Nebbiolo and a superb introduction to what can be done in Gattinara.

Mid to light ruby. Very delicate fragrance of dark-red cherries. Subtle, elegant, dry and fine boned. Very long. ”Julia Harding MW (jancisrobinson.com).
